Back to School Tips
As summer comes to an end and back to school shopping begins, it can get a bit overwhelming. Here's a guide to plan your back to school shopping experience to save money, time and your sanity:
Take inventory and make a prioritized list
- Go through your kids' closets, dressers and shoes to see what you have and make note of anything needed.
- Check for unused school supplies and any overstock items you have. There's no need to purchase if you already have 5 packs of pencils.
- Make note of everything you need to start the school year off right and make a list, prioritizing the supplies you need the most.
Plan your shopping day in advance
- Research in-store deals and go to multiple places to get your supplies.
- Shop on the annual tax free weekend- South Carolina's is from August 1st-3rd. This way school supplies, clothing and computers can be purchased free of tax.
- Take your time shopping and look thoroughly.
- Go to boutiques and consignment shops - Butterfly Consignment, Aiden Lane, Zinnia and more - to get specific items.
Purchase Good School Supplies
- Check with your child's school to confirm the class supply list.
- Purchase supplies with prevention and durability in mind. It's recommended that you look for backpacks with wide, padded shoulders straps and padded back. Buy folders, notebooks and binders with sturdier plastic to be able to reuse them year after year.
- Compare prices of items online and in store. Make sure that you're getting the sale price that's being promoted. We also recommend checking out the store's app to scan bar codes to see the best deal and check for anymore discounts.
